Holy Communion Participants 2009
Sunday May 3,2009 was a special day in the history of AssumptionChurch. It was on this day that our very first group of children received the sacrament of First Holy Communion in the new church location. Eighty-eight children from Church of the Assumption and Saint Nicholas gathered with family and friends for this joyous Eucharistic Liturgy. Many were children and grandchildren of AssumptionSchool alumni. Our numbers have certainly grown since the early days of the church, when only a handful of children received First Holy Communion.
Father Michael Matveenko and Father Yvans Jazon were the celebrants who, along with the Children’s Choir, made it a memorable occasion. AssumptionChurch is blessed to have so many people who help make these occasions happen: the staff of the Assumption School and Church, the catechists, musicians, singers, lectors, and of course, the parents.
We are so grateful to have a new church that could accommodate all the families of our Catholic community, present and future. We are so proud of the children who took the next step in their journey towards the future! Despite the rainy, chilly weather, our hearts were warmed by the enthusiasm and love of God we saw in the eyes of the boys and girls on that special day!
